Water canals (Aqueducts)

2024

Material performance & Performance installation

Calcium chloride (salt), copper powder, Jesmonite AC100, quadaxial stitched glassdust sheet, vinegar, ammonium, wood, bolts and screws, room conditions, and environmental variables

The duration varies depending on room humidity, temperature, and air flow.

The performance is estimated to take a minimum of 8-10 weeks, potentially unending

Size is variable: min: 160x100x40 cm max: 400x400x300 cm

Day 4 and 14 of the third canal

Day 1 of the third canal - Day 21 of the second canal and Day 14 of the third canal

They are the water canals produces their own liquid to carry by destroying themselves. While rusting the copper in the mixture from brown to blue. This process changes over time, sometimes slower, sometimes quicker, and it may crystallise. The entire process depends on the environment: humidity, airflow, breathing, and sweating.

Calcium chloride (CaCl₂) is a white, crystalline compound widely used for de-icing roads, controlling dust, and as a desiccant due to its highly hygroscopic nature. Unless it is kept in an airtight container (which I call a mode of death), it will absorb moisture from the air and undergo a chemical change, eventually becoming a chemically-different liquid.
